Former Club Veg radio star Vic Davies fighting inoperable cancer (pix News Ltd)<\/p><\/div>\n

THE entertainment industry is holding a fund-raiser for former Club Veg<\/span><\/strong> radio star Vic Davies<\/strong><\/span>, who was diagnosed with inoperable cancer just two months ago.<\/p>\n

Davies received the diagnosis of lung cancer just before his 55th<\/sup> birthday but the disease has spread to other organs. His wife, Jodie<\/strong><\/span>, has quit her job to care for the one-time on-air larrikin, who rose to fame as one-half of Club Veg in the 1980s, 1990s and Noughties.<\/p>\n

Davies, who has a five-year-old with Jodie as well as three older children, hit the big time on Triple M<\/strong><\/span> after getting his break on the ABC\u2019s youth broadcaster Triple J<\/strong><\/span> before moving to 2SM<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He was partnered with long-time mate, Malcolm Lees<\/span><\/strong>, and the duo had a stranglehold on the ratings in the drive-time slot until Triple M <\/span><\/strong>cancelled the show after five years in 2002 (which they had done previously \u2013 go figure!)<\/p>\n

Their \u201csucked-in calls\u201d<\/span><\/strong> and musical sledges<\/strong><\/span> paved the way for various talking heads that followed as well as the current crop of TV comedian such as The Chaser<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Davies has already gone through two rounds of chemotherapy and friends say he is doing as well as can be expected.<\/p>\n

A host of big radio names \u2013 past and present \u2013 will get together for the \u201cNot Too Foul\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong> fund-raiser next month, including radio legend Doug Mulray<\/span><\/strong>, who ruled the airwaves in the late 80s and early 90s.<\/p>\n

For those who like their radio history, Club Veg filled Mulray\u2019s very big shoes when he quit radio in 1992, but the comedy couple lasted a year. They were resurrected five years later and turned out to be hugely successful.<\/p>\n

Vega 93 <\/span><\/strong>breakfast co-host Mikey Robins<\/span><\/strong> (who also happens to be my next door neighbour) will MC the event with Rob Duckworth<\/span><\/strong>. Expect to see the affable Jonesy and Amanda<\/span><\/strong>, Nanna, Ugly Phil<\/span><\/strong> and Stuart Cranney <\/strong><\/span>as well performances by \u00a0Ian Moss<\/span><\/strong> and The Choirboys<\/strong><\/span>. Not Too Foul <\/strong><\/em>will be held at the Bridge Hotel<\/span><\/strong> in Rozelle<\/strong><\/span> on August 6<\/span><\/strong>.
